About me
Hannah Mitchell (She/They) serves as the GSA Coordinator at Iowa Safe Schools. With degrees in Gender & Sexuality Studies, Social Justice, and Social Work, her practical passion for improving the LGBTQ student educational experience began as an active member of her high school's Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Club. Continuing her engagement at the University of Iowa, she led the campus's LGBTQ sorority, presented for the violence prevention program at the Women's Resource and Action Center, and completed a dissertation on LGBTQ+ student experiences on campus.
In her role as GSA Coordinator, Hannah travels to student groups in Iowa Safe Schools' GSA Network, engaging with LGBTQ+ students and their allies to understand the tangible impact of policies on their educational experiences. Hannah's goal is to collaborate with these groups to establish enduring affirming educational environments for LGBTQ and allied youth. She is looking forward to sharing practical methods for supporting students in her session, "Creating Safe Learning Environments for LGBTQ Students"!
